3.5 stars, just shy of 4 stars. When I picked this up in my local used bookstore and noticed it was a couple of bucks, I snagged it. After coming home and reading several pages of reviews, as well as skimming the star ratings on my friends list, I was almost hesitant to try this book. This series seems to fall under the "love it or hate it" category for most people. I fell somewhere in the middle and did like the book overall. The book was a fast read, easy to follow, and it kept me entertained. There were a couple of cons for me though. The heroine Kaye was not one of my favorite leads, and I had a hard time getting past the name "Corny," which is my own fault, not the author's, I'm sure. I also felt like the story was trying just a bit too hard to be edgy. Although, I'd rather a story try too hard then not try hard enough, so I still give Ms. Black credit for going there and not sugar coating everything. On to the best part of the book - Roiben was a great male lead. I liked that he had silver hair and wore body armor. His presence felt regal, and I quite enjoyed his strength.I do appreciate this author's boldness so I can't complain too much, and I absolutely love her Curseworkers series.
