Magic Burns (Kate Daniels Series #2)

Magic Burns (Kate Daniels Series #2) - He inhaled my scent, bent close, about to kiss me...I just stood there like an idiot.Curran smirked and whispered in my ear instead. "Psych."I'm pretty sure that Kate and Curran are working on turning sexual tension into a sport. Watching two stubborn beings trying to coexist in the same room makes for an interesting dynamic.Okay, so I might be eating my words just a little bit. But it's going to be a small meal, no larger than a snack. I'll nibble on two or three mini words, no longer than three letters apiece. Book 2 did manage to hold my interest somewhat better than book 1 did. I'm still not "hooked" yet, but at least I am now leaning toward interested. Since everyone keeps swearing that the series gets better and better, you can rest assured that I'll be continuing on.The world is intriguing, even though it's still sort of this strange meld of a little bit of everything from magic to mythology. This is kitchen-sink storytelling : good, but stuffed full to the brim with information. Blink, and you might miss a crucial bit of info and have to go back and re-read it over again.New characters were introduced in this story. As of right now, I think the characters are the biggest draw to the series. I find myself wanting to know more about all of them, moreso than I do about the actual world, races and magic system. A lot went down in this book and I'm still not quite sure how everything ties together. I can't complain about the lack of detail and action because there was more of this than actual character development. I'm hoping that we'll see a little bit more balance in future books.I already knew this feeling was going to happen... but Curran is the man...er lion...er man. Yeah, that. Any scene with him in it is going to be entertaining as hell. I love people who know how to give it. His attitude of fierceness and sarcasm makes me a happy reader."What's the deal with the hair?"Curran tore his gaze from the book and grimaced. "Grows every flare. Can't help it."We stared at each other. "Waiting for the Fabio joke," he said.Kate is a great match for Curran. She gives it right back to him.A little light danced in his eyes and he very deliberately said, "Baby."(Kate thinking) No.He laughed. "You should see your face right now."Just from the banter and escapades I've seen already, it appears that Kate and Curran will be butting heads in an entertaining way for many books to come. I'm a little peeved about something that happened with a character near the end but I don't know what to say other than I didn't like it. Boo. Book 3...let's see if you can get me to fall in love. I'll be crossing my fingers.
