Hearts in Darkness = Love at first delayed sight. Second read 05/12. Hearts was a nice little slow-build for such a short book. Two strangers are plunged into darkness when an elevator stalls out. The kicker is that neither one paid much attention to the other before the cables ground to a halt, lending the story an air of mystery about how the two characters will react to one another when the lights come back on.Our newly acquainted pair use the time to get to know about each other. Secrets are spilled and inner demons come out. A connection starts to build as a couple starts inching closer to the edge of a sexual awareness directed at one another. When the physical becomes part of the equation, the foreplay is sizzling. Then the lights come on. What will happen next for Makenna and Caden? The story does continue beyond what happens in the elevator. I hate using the word sweet when describing anything that takes a turn for the erotic, but sometimes you just have to. This was such a sweet little book...definitely a great example of why appearance does not always tell you the most important things about a person. I like heroes with inner and outer scars and this hero has them both. I would say that the biggest positive of this book was watching the connection burn slow and build stronger with each new revelation.
